Гуанчжоу — город субпровинциального значения Китайской Народной Республики, столица провинции Гуандун. Политический, экономический, научно-технический, образовательный, культурный и транспортный центр всего южного Китая. Гуанчжоу с населением свыше 13 млн человек является четвёртым по величине городом Китая, уступая Шанхаю, Пекину и Тяньцзину. Гуанчжоу — хорошо известный культурно-исторический город Китая, является крупнейшим в Южном Китае торгово- промышленным городом и морским внешнеторговым портом.
Климат в Гуанчжоу определяется его южным расположением и близостью к теплому морю. Лето в Гуанчжоуочень жаркая, а зима мягкая, без морозов. Самая высокая температура: +40С, самая низкая: около +4С
Университет основан в 1952 году как Южно-китайский технологический институт. Переименован в университет в 1988 году. В 2000 занял 34 место в рейтинге наиболее сильнейших технологических университетов в Азии по версии журнала Эйшавик. Действует под непосредственным руководством Министерства образования Китая.
Имеет 2 кампуса общей площадью 300 га. Первый кампус Ушань в районе Тяньхэ имеет 15 факультетов. Второй кампус в районе Паньюй и имеет 10 факультетов. Обучение на языковых курсах проводиться во втором пригородном кампусе.
В университете наиболее сильными считаются дисциплины: электроника, технологии, машиностроение, инженерные коммуникации, архитектура и строительство.
