Ланчжоу (Lanzhou) является столицей провинции Ганьсу (Gansu) и одним из крупнейших городов северо-запада Китая. Город основан на месте пересечения "Шелкового пути" с рекой Хуанхэ. Ланчжоу – важный промышленный центр. Промышленность в Ланчжоу представлена самыми разными отраслями: химическая, машиностроительная, нефтеперерабатывающая, суконная, табачная, кожевенная и др. Кроме того, удачное местоположение Ланчжоу делает город важным транспортным узлом, соединяющим восток и запад Китая. Ланчжоу по праву называют колыбелью китайской цивилизации.
Является техническим государственным университетом. Технические науки являются основным направлением университета, однако большое внимание также уделяется развитию таких специальностей, как экономика, маркетинг, международная экономика и торговля.
